The successor to the Pixel 7a, the Pixel 8a was officially launched on May 7. The phone runs on the same chipset as the Pixel 8 and has a design similar to the Pixel 8. The phone is offered in interesting colourways.

The phone will officially go on sale on May 14 at 6:30 am, ie today. It comes in four colors: Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain. You have two storage options: 128GB or 256GB. The 128GB version costs Rs 52,999, and the 256GB version costs Rs 59,999. Compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 7a, which started at Rs 43,999, the Pixel 8a is pricier.

But if you pre-order, there are some good deals to take advantage of, especially with certain bank cards. SBI Credit Card users get an instant discount of Rs 4,000. Plus, there's an exchange offer where you can get up to Rs 9,000 off by trading in select smartphone models. This brings the effective price down to Rs 39,999. Pixel 8a: Specifications

The Google Pixel 8a has a 6.1-inch screen with an OLED Actua display, offering a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and 430 PPI. It boasts a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and comes protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. The display is always on and can reach up to 2000 nits of brightness. It supports HDR and has a full 24-bit depth for 16 million colors. Google claims it's 40 percent brighter compared to the Pixel 7a.

In terms of design, it's quite similar to previous models but with some subtle changes. The camera module stands out with a thick horizontal strap housing two sensors. The back panel has a matte finish and a polished aluminum frame. The front features a punch-hole display with rounded edges. It weighs 188 grams and measures 152.1mm x 72.7mm x 8.9mm.

Under the hood, it runs on Google's Tensor G3 chipset and Titan M2 security coprocessor with 8 GB LPDDR5x RAM. It shares many AI features with Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

For photography enthusiasts, it offers a dual rear camera system with a 64-megapixel main lens and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens. On the front, there's a 13-megapixel camera with a wide field-of-view. The camera includes AI features like Best Take for group shots, Magic Editor for editing, and Audio Magic Eraser for removing unwanted sounds from videos.


The phone will receive seven years of software support, including security updates and Android OS upgrades. In terms of battery, it packs a 4492 mAh battery

It also comes with Gemini, Google's built-in AI assistant, allowing users to type, talk, and add images for various tasks. The Circle to Search feature lets you find information quickly without switching apps by circling, scribbling, or tapping on an image, text, or video. Additionally, Audio Emojis add a new level of expression to phone calls.
